Every 7-8 years, Uranus moves into a new sign. In May 2018, Uranus moved into the sign of Taurus, after spending 7 years shaking things up in the sign of Aries. It will remain in Taurus until 2025. August 7th, 2018, Uranus reverses in the sky and appears to move backwards until January 2019.

It’s a big deal when Uranus moves into a new sign. It’s a big deal when ANY of the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) change signs. The outer planets are powerful in ways that the first 7 planets are not. They are not visible to the naked eye. We are required to use a high-powered telescope just to get a glimpse. People did not even know they existed until 1781 when Uranus was discovered! It took another 60 years for Neptune to be discovered and then another 90 years for Pluto! These planets affect us in extraordinary ways whether they are making strong aspects in our natal charts or if we are having a once in a lifetime transit. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move so slowly that unless we live past 84 years, these planets changing signs will only happen once in our lifetime. Astrologers think of the outer planets as ‘generational’ planets.

URANUS = THE AWAKENER = UNEXPECTED CHANGE

Uranus causes chaos and disruption. It is referred to as the “awakener” because when we are having a strong Uranus transit, we are usually forcefully jolted into seeing things that we were unable to see before. Uranus is never subtle. It is almost always sudden, unexpected, and unpredictable Either we were not mentally and emotionally ready for what Uranus wants to wake us up to or we were not able to imagine it yet. Uranus is rebellious, a rule-breaker. It values individuality and freedom. It breaks down old systems and outdated ways of thinking in order to make a better future.

Taurus, a fixed, earth sign, resists change and does not appreciate Uranus disrupting its stability and predictability. As uncomfortable as it is, things will change. Looking back at history, when Uranus moves into Taurus there tends to be major changes in MONEY (financial institutions, banking, currency) and NATURE (farming practices, food). Considering the dire condition in current economics and the environment, I have a feeling things will get worse and likely come to a breaking point before institutions and civilians are forced into changing everything. That means more natural disasters and more financial collapses. People in all positions don’t normally make changes until they absolutely have to.

Some historical examples of economic breakthroughs while Uranus transited Taurus include: The creation of the stock in the early 1600’s, the New Deal in the 1930’s to come out of the Great Depression and then WWII, in the 1850’s the rise of Communism, and in the 1760’s the American Revolution.

Collectively, the world will experience radical changes and disruptions to its physical form. Some of these things have already been happening. This includes the obvious: erupting volcanoes, unprecedented floods, frequent earthquakes, and massive destruction from climate change. On a more optimistic note, think of all the new technologies being created to make our world so much better! The possibility for lab-grown meat (to replace inhumane slaughter of trillions of animals each year), solutions for removing plastic from oceans, and bitcoin to name a few… I personally hope for more equality economically, free education, health care, sustainable energy, cleaner oceans, and clean food!

Taurus has to do with our values, Don’t be surprised if an event or person comes along and you suddenly find yourself questioning your behavior and lifestyle. It is helpful to know which house Taurus rules in your chart so you can have a better understanding as to what topics may be most influenced.

  • Do you know what house Taurus rules in your chart?
  • Do you have any planets in Taurus?
  • Have you had any major changes happen already this year?

If you have key planets in Taurus or Taurus in an important house in your chart, you may be more primed for Uranian influences than others. Remember, Uranus is unpredictable and can blindside us. Be aware that at any time, events, people, or situations could cause us to suddenly question our behavior and lifestyle, especially if if we have become too routine or stagnant.
